Prime Minister John Key says today’s unveiling of a blueprint for the rebuild of central Christchurch will show a very “livable” city.
The blueprint consists of two documents – a 100-page recovery plan and a document containing planning rules, which will be presented to Cabinet to be signed off today.
Key told TV ONE’s Breakfast this morning that the plans, which will be officially unveiled at 6pm, are “right” for the city.
“If there’s any good that comes out of these earthquakes, and you’ve go to argue that’s pretty minimal, it’s the capacity to really get it right in terms of a vision for Cantabrians,” he said.
“You’re really starting from base zero, you’ve got the capacity to do what most cities don’t.”
